Mindfulness in a Nutshell!

Mindfulness in a Nutshell!

At first, mindfulness can seem like an intangible concept. However, practising mindfulness is, quite simply, the act of concentrating on your breathing, being aware of what is going on around you in the present moment. The more you do it, the more the simplicity of it becomes clear and benefits manifold. It lightens the mind and the spirit. The breath is very important in mindfulness – it helps you to centre yourself. It also allows you relax your physical body and release any physical tension you may have. The following is just a very brief exercise is mindfulness breathing.

Breathing Mindfulness Exercise:

  1. 1. Breathe in and count to 6 (approximately)
  2. Hold for a count of 2
  3. Let your breath out slowly (for a count of 8 if you can).

Someone who is deeply relaxed will breathe for approximately 7 times per minute. When you slow down your own breathing, you automatically relax. This technique is very useful when you are feeling nervous, stressed, and worried or need to calm down in a situation. An example of this could be when you are giving a presentation or going for a job interview.

I hope to write more articles on Mindfulness and how it can benefit you – the reader soon!

    With love and blessings, Libby
